The echoes of what once was have faded under the harsh reality of what came after the Climax. All that once was, all that was known has been forgotten. Land masses changed, climates altered and countless lives lost in what was the worst disaster Pern had ever faced. Spans of land and holds are assumed to have been obliterated where they were caught in areas called 'deadzones' for their ability to make it impossible for a dragon to between when caught within.
It has been 567 turns since then. Riders and Holders are caught in a struggle for survival against raiders for supplies, land and skills. In what was once Fort Weyr and Hold stands the last chance for life as it is known in what is now called Last Chance Weyr. Dragon and human, Holder and Crafter work together in a world that can no longer remember life any other way. People are dying, the world is dying.
This is our last chance to discover if we can survive.
This is the Pern we were left with.
