Paradox Pass

History abhors a paradox. Time flows like a river, and when an obstacle is dropped in its midst, it finds the path of least resistance to resume its course. These changes, even if they are small, create ripples, and those ripples affect the world we live in.
Imagine, then, what happens when you drop a dragon-sized boulder into the time stream.
The Tenth Pass looms. AIVAS' grand plan to divert the Red Star failed, and so life on Pern continues much as it always has. The Holds increase the size of their tithes, ready to help support the Weyrs that will protect them throughout the oncoming period of fifty brutal Turns.
But for some, this is not an option. Far in the west lies and island where Pern tends to dump its garbage; a plethora of people who have, for whatever reason, been banished to fend for themselves. It is widely assumed that banishment equates to a long, drawn out death sentence, but these are Pernese folk we're talking about. They're tough and hardy and determined to survive, and without Thread falling to wipe out their numbers, they have managed to do just that. They've eked out a living, and some of them have even started families, children whose only crime was to be born to banished parents. And now they too must face the Pass looming down on them, must find a way to survive the Thread that will destroy everything they've worked so hard to create, because there is no Western Weyr. There are no dragons to protect them.
So they take some. Playing on the sympathies of those who will listen, of those who perhaps have family banished in the west, they reach out and take what they need. Some of those innocent children, now grown, are smuggled into Pern's Weyrs to face the hatching sands. And when they Impress, when their duplicity and that of their conspirators is discovered, all of Pern turns its back on them and leaves them to die in the barren west. Their options limited and time running out, the westerners turn to the only other refuge they can find: the past.
If Lessa did it, then so can they. But not everything goes according to plan, and after their last hop between times, it doesn't take long to see that something is amiss. They are in the Eighth Interval, but only just... and Benden Weyr is empty. Ista, on the other hand, is not, but there is no F'lar at Ista. No F'nor, either.
No Lessa. No Ramoth. And without them, how will Pern's missing Weyrs come forward to help defend the planet against the swiftly approaching Ninth Pass?

Paradox Pass is an AU Ninth Pass semi-canon Dragonriders of Pern RP. We have a wide variety of positions available for new members, including the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader of Ista Weyr, and are planning to host a hatching in the very near future.
